Officer-Involved Shooting Being Investigated In Wappingers Falls: NYSP

New York State police said there is no ongoing threat to the public as the Dutchess sheriff leads the inquiry.

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY — An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in the Village of Wappingers Falls, where New York State Police said they are on scene in the area of East Main Street and Market Street.

State police said there is no ongoing threat to the public. They also said the investigation remains active in the village.

According to the information released, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office is the lead investigating agency.

According to report from the Mid-Hudson New a man was shot around 1:45 a.m. this morning on the Wappingers Creek Bridge in the Village of Wappingers Falls. The newspaper said that initial accounts indicate that police responded to the area around 1 a.m. for a report of a suicidal man who was threatening to jump. Patch has not yet independently confirmed these details.

The statement from NYSP did not identify the officer involved, say how many people were involved, or describe what led to the shooting.

According to Dutchess County Emergency Management Rte 9D/East and West Main Street in the Village of Wappingers Falls remains closed between Givans Avenue and South Avenue due to Police Activity. The public is being asked to use alternate routes and avoid this area.
