Find out the latest timeline for the storm, according to meteorologists.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Wintry weather is making for slippery travel today, but a bigger system is headed toward the region this weekend, one that is expected to bring significant snowfall and high winds.
The National Weather Service in Albany said snow in the region today will “lead to reduced visibility and slippery surfaces.”
The snow will lighten this afternoon and mix with sleet and rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service on Friday afternoon announced a winter storm watch is in effect for southeast New York, including Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties.

The watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow is possible, with total snow accumulations between six and 10 inches possible, and wind gusts as high as 40 miles per hour.
“Travel could be very difficult,” the notice says. “Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. The combination of gusty winds and heavy wet snow could bring down tree branches.”
Brian Frugis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said the snow will start around mid-day on Sunday.
Other areas, such as New Jersey and Long Island, are expected to have higher snowfall totals than the Hudson Valley, he said.
The Weather Channel as of Friday afternoon had the southern Hudson Valley in a five to eight inch snowfall range, with most of the northern areas in the three to five inch range for the weekend storm.
