Program information:
The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra explores the swing tradition established in the Southwest by groups such as the Oklahoma City Blue Devils and brought to worldwide prominence by William James “Count” Basie and the “Old Testament” and “New Testament” versions of the Count Basie Orchestra. Hear the big-band swing that electrified dance halls such as the Savoy Ballroom—“the home of happy feet”—and the Roseland Ballroom.
