For those ages 7+, the 45-minute tour opens on August 28th guided by Liberty, the Spirit of the Statue of Liberty, guests will set off on an adventure through the hidden stories of freedom woven into Manhattan, an immersive sightseeing entertainment experience that uses XR (Extended Reality) technology to transform a moving double-decker bus into a stage where the real streets of New York and digital storytelling unfold as one.

As the tour passes iconic Midtown landmarks such as Bryant Park, the New York Public Library, and Times Square, a series of WOW moments unfolds—from time travel to the 1880s and dazzling Broadway-inspired scenes to an interactive battle to protect freedom.

As the real streets of New York blend with the world of XR, the city itself transforms into a stage for the story. Experience a one-of-a-kind immersive XR adventure where sightseeing, history, art, and entertainment come together. During the approximately 45-minute journey, Liberty leads guests through 250 years of New York history. Iconic locations including the New York Public Library, Grand Central Terminal, Broadway, and Times Square become stages for stories of knowledge, movement, expression, dreams, individuality, and freedom. The experience also includes sequences that transport guests to the late 1800s, immersive scenes inspired by New York’s art and entertainment culture, interactive moments, and a cinematic finale above Manhattan.

XR, or extended reality, adds digital visuals to the real world rather than replacing it. You continue to see New York’s actual streets and landmarks while immersive scenes and stories appear through the headset.

A note is placed precisely where the train happens to be along its route. Rush hour fills the band with held tones; at 3 a.m. the silences grow longer. Whatever is playing now has not played before and will not play again. Share your location and the trains nearest you grow louder. The piece rearranges itself around your body. You are listening to a portrait of where you stand, played by the city you are standing in.
Joshua Wolk is a designer and engineer who leverages data to make art. Josh was recently featured in the New York Times for his avante garde melding of tech and music: "The New York City subway’s No. 1 line is an upright bass. The 7 is a vibraphone. Josh Wolk, a design engineer, assigned an instrument to every branch of the subway map and the result is <a href="https://www.trainjazz.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">surprisingly soothing jazz music</a>, given the comparatively cacophonous experience of actually riding the thing."

The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.
