First-Ever Deliverista Hub Opens In NYC

Worker-designed hub near City Hall provides rest space, bike repair and 24/7 e-bike charging.

NEW YORK, NY— The City opened the nation’s first worker-designed hub for app-based delivery workers, creating a centralized space for rest, repairs and safe e-bike charging near City Hall.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer and Worker's Justice Project announced the launch of the City Hall Park Deliverista Hub, designed to serve the city’s roughly 80,000 delivery workers.

The site includes dedicated areas for rest, bike repair and education, along with access to guidance on street safety, e-bike use, wage theft and app deactivations.

Charging cabinets provide round-the-clock access for safely powering e-bike batteries.

“Delivery workers keep this city running — through the cold, the rain and every storm that comes our way,” Mamdani said.

Schumer said he secured $1 million in federal funding for the project.

The hub will be staffed five days a week and remain open to the public, with 24/7 access to charging infrastructure.

Ligia Guallpa, executive director of the Worker’s Justice Project, said the project emerged from worker organizing.

“This hub is the result of workers organizing, leading and building what companies would not,” she said. “As the first deliverista hub of its kind in the nation, it marks a new beginning.”

Delivery workers face high injury rates and limited access to safe infrastructure, said Gustavo Ajche, a delivery worker and organizer.

“This hub started as an idea from workers who knew things had to change — and who organized to make that change real,” he said.

City agencies coordinated on the project, with the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation providing the site and the New York City Department of Transportation supporting street access and bike infrastructure.

The facility, located on Broadway near City Hall Park, will serve as a model as the city expands infrastructure for delivery workers and e-bike use, according to officials.
