Got Spoiled Milk? Con Edison Will Reimburse Qualified NYC Residents
Con Edison customers have 30 days to file claims for spoiled groceries or medication after extended power outages.
BROOKLYN, NY — Residents and businesses affected by Con Edison power outages lasting more than 12 hours within a 24-hour period can now apply for reimbursement for spoiled food and prescription medication.
The utility company allows residential claims for up to $580 in food losses. Claims exceeding $250 require an itemized list and proof of actual loss, such as receipts or photographs.
Prescription medication losses can be submitted separately with supporting documentation. Commercial customers may claim up to $11,460 for perishable merchandise affected by the outage.

All claims must be filed within 30 days of the outage. Con Edison provides a dedicated online form for customers to submit their requests.
“Customers experiencing extended outages should document their losses promptly,” the utility advised, directing residents here. The reimbursement program aims to offset losses from prolonged outages, helping households and businesses recover quickly.
