More K-3 Space Opens Up In NYC

NEW YORK, NY — Seven new early childhood education centers will open this fall, adding about 240 seats for 3-year-olds across New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Wednesday.

The sites, previously vacant, mark the first phase of a broader 3-K expansion planned for the 2026–27 school year.

“Today, we are opening doors that should never have been closed to our families — safe, nurturing spaces where their children can learn and grow, in their own communities,” Mamdani said.

The new centers are located in:

• District 11 — 1107 East Gun Hill Road
• District 15 — 274 Atlantic Avenue
• District 22 — 1326 East 57th Street
• District 24 — 63-57 Fresh Pond Road
• District 24 — 104-72 Roosevelt Avenue
• District 24 — 47-00 76th Street
• District 25 — 18-31 131st Street

The city will also increase capacity among existing providers and plans to announce additional center-based seats after reviewing responses to a Request for Information issued earlier this year.

Family child care networks will also grow, according to officials.

Families can find the new programs on MySchools.Those who already applied will receive instructions to update their applications, while others can still join waitlists.

The expansion follows earlier efforts that included plans for full-day, full-year 2-K programs and more than 1,000 additional 3-K seats across 56 ZIP codes since January.
