A New Yorker's Guide To LGBTQ+ Pride Events This June

NEW YORK CITY — Rainbow flags, live music, family activities and community events will return to the Big Apple this June as part of a Pride Month season unfolding against a backdrop of sharp political debate across the country.

The main pride parade is scheduled for June 28, starting at noon on 26th Street and 5th Avenue.

This year’s theme is "For All of Us," referencing a quote widely attributed to LGBTQIA+ activist and Stonewall veteran Marsha P. Johnson: "There is no pride for some of us without liberation for all of us."

This year's grand marshals are "Pose" actress Dominique Jackson, drag performer Peppermint, comedian Bowen Yang, Bernie Wagenblast, known as the "voice of the MTA," and members of Gays Against Guns.

"LGBTQ+ Pride events are under attack around the world, but NYC is determined to march on," Im Lynde, the executive director of NYC Pride, said. "We invite our LGBTQIA+ community from near and far to join us in the birthplace of Pride as we continue the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality – for all of us."

Pride Month is celebrated each June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Greenwich Village, widely viewed as a turning point in the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, according to the Library of Congress.

What began as a day of remembrance and protest has grown into a month of parades, festivals, concerts, workshops and community gatherings across the country.

"It would take far more than a month to honor the contributions of queer and transgender New Yorkers," Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on X (formerly Twitter). "To all our queer and trans neighbors: you deserve a City where you can afford to live safely, openly, and joyfully.
