NYC-Area Airports Hit With Delays, Cancellations After Severe Blizzard

NEW YORK CITY — New York City area airports are experiencing significant delays and disruption due to the lingering effects of a massive blizzard that hit the area on Monday.

Currently, departures from John F. Kennedy Airport are under a ground delay due to snow and ice, according to the FAA.

There is an average wait time of around 4 hours and 30 minutes. The ground delay is in effect until noon but could be extended depending on conditions at the airport.

At LaGuardia International Airport, there has been 42 delays so far on Tuesday. Total cancellations at the airport has risen to 448, according to FlightAware.

Newark Airport is reporting 54 delays as of Tuesday afternoon. The airport has 476 cancellations so far.

From Sunday to Monday morning, thousands of flights out of JFK, LaGuardia International Airport, and Newark were cancelled during the blizzard.

The blizzard dumped around two feet of snow across the metro area.

The FAA is advising travelers to check with their airlines for the latest flight updates.
