NYPD Chief Involved In Off-Duty Shooting 30 Miles Outside Of NYC
A single gunshot during a confrontation in Haverstraw left no injuries and triggered probes by local police and NYPD investigators.
NEW YORK, NY— Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley, one of the NYPD’s top Bronx commanders, was involved in an off-duty shooting incident in suburban Rockland County that is now under multiple investigations, police officials said.
The confrontation unfolded Sunday night in Haverstraw, a village about 30 miles north of the Bronx, according to police sources.
Authorities said a single shot was fired during the encounter. No one was struck. Investigators have not determined who fired the shot.

Gurley, a 26-year NYPD veteran, oversees the department’s newly created Bronx North command.
The Haverstraw Police Department is leading the criminal investigation. The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division and Internal Affairs Bureau also opened inquiries into the incident, an NYPD spokesperson said Monday.
