A winter storm warning is set to take effect Friday afternoon. Here are the latest predictions and travel impacts.
If you're planning to travel Friday, do it early. That's the message from the National Weather Service, which is continuing to predict a winter storm will bring 8 inches of snow, possibly more, to New York City and surrounding areas.
A winter storm warning for the city is in effect from 4 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday, when 4 to 8 inches of snow is predicted, according to the weather service.
Travel could be "very difficult," especially Friday evening, says the warning, which extends through southeastern New York, northern New Jersey and southern Connecticut.

Snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is possible and as much as 10 inches is a "reasonable worst case scenario," the forecast says, with snow falling at 1 inch per hour, with an outside chance of as much as 2 inches per hour. The snow will start off light and dry but get wetter and heavier as the storm progresses, the forecasters said.
North and east of the city, the accumulations are anticipated to be lower as the storm moves east out of the area by late Saturday afternoon.
