Sinkhole Shuts Down Runway At LaGuardia Airport, Delays Expected: FAA

The sinkhole was found near Runway 4/22, according to the Port Authority.

NEW YORK CITY — A sinkhole has shut down one runway at LaGuardia Airport and has caused delays of over an hour, according to the Port Authority.

The sinkhole was found around 11 a.m. on Wednesday during a routine inspection of the airport's runways.

The sinkhole was found near Runway 4/22, according to the Port Authority.

"Travelers should expect delays and cancellations, particularly with forecast thunderstorms expected later today, and are strongly encouraged to check directly with their airlines for the latest flight status information," the Port Authority said in a social media post.

The airport is currently experiencing arrival delays of around 40 minutes and increasing.

According to FlightAware, there are currently 195 cancellations into and out of LGA, and 208b delays.
