1 Killed In Head-On Crash Involving Sedan, Garbage Truck In Ramapo: Police

RAMAPO, NY — A 38-year-old Suffern woman was killed Monday when the sedan she was driving and a garbage truck collided head-on, according to police.

The sedan’s passenger, a 37-year-old Suffern resident, was injured and transported to Westchester Medical Center. Police described the passenger’s injuries as “non-life-threatening.”

The garbage truck operator was not hurt, according to police.

Police said the crash happened around 10:35 a.m., on Route 202 near Wilder Road in the Village of Wesley Hills.

A preliminary investigation shows the truck and sedan collided head-on, police said. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Route 202 was closed for hours during the investigation, but had reopened by 5 p.m.

A 38-year-old Haverstraw resident was operating the garbage truck. The truck driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. Investigators screened the truck driver for any alcohol or drug use, and concluded the driver “showed no signs of impairment,” police said.

Police had not released names of anyone involved in the accident as of Tuesday.

The Town of Ramapo Police Department Crash Investigation Unit is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.
