Driver Killed In Palisades Parkway Crash ID'd As Newburgh 19-Year-Old By Authorities

STONY POINT, NY — The identity of the teenager killed in a single-car collision on a Hudson Valley highway has now been released by authorities.

On Tuesday, at 9:46 a.m., the New York State Park police along with New York State troopers assigned to the Haverstraw barracks responded to a single-car crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway southbound, near Exit 16, in the Town of Stony Point.

Investigators say a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by the teenager was traveling south on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, near mile marker 31.3. At the time of the collision, it was raining, and the roadway was wet. For reasons still under investigation, the car left the roadway, entered the center median, and struck a tree.

The driver and sole occupant was later identified as 19-year-old Christopher A. Rivera, of Newburgh. He was extricated from the vehicle and rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died,

The investigation remains ongoing, according to NYSP.

State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Haverstraw at 845-344-5300.
