Drones, K-9 Units Help Lead Cops To Burglary Suspect Fleeing Through Backyards

RAMAPO, NY — A suspect fled the scene of the crime, but couldn't hide from the dogs, or the eyes in the sky, according to police.

Ramapo police arrested a 29-year-old man Sunday night after responding to a reported burglary at a Campbell Avenue home and searching nearby backyards, according to police.

Police said officers were in the Campbell Avenue area at about 9 p.m. on Sunday, searching for the suspect wanted in connection with the reported burglary at a residence there.

The suspect was identified by police as Jose Victor Jimenez-Rivera. Police said he is the former husband of the victim.

Officers were told that Jimenez-Rivera fled the area on foot through nearby backyards after the reported burglary. Police said an extensive search followed, including a drone response and the use of K-9 units.

The suspect was eventually found and taken into custody.

Jimenez-Rivera was charged with act in a manner injurious to a child less than 17, burglary, illegal entry, criminal tampering, criminal possession of stolen property, and petit larceny.

Police said Jimenez-Rivera was arraigned on the charges and released from custody without bail.
