FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY — A Franklin Square man is facing grand larceny and scheme to defraud charges this week after he was arrested Friday night for his role in a diamond fraud scheme, police said.

Nassau County police said 42-year-old Wilfredo Franco Ramirez knowingly received a shipment of loose natural diamonds with a value of $158,000, adding that he was arrested just after 7 p.m. Friday without incident.

In the aftermath of his arrest, Ramirez was charged with second-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud, police said. Court documents show he pleaded not guilty to both charges, and is due back in court June 16.
