Man Struck With Hammer After Trying To Help During Altercation At McDonald's: PD
The man tried to intervene when an altercation broke out at an Elmont fast food restaurant — but instead, got hit with a hammer, police say.
ELMONT, NY — A Floral Park man was arrested after hitting someone with a hammer in an Elmont McDonald's, police said.
According to Nassau County police, the incident took place Monday morning at 6:34 a.m. at a McDonald's on Hempstead Turnpike.
According to detectives, a man began acting erratically at the eatery and engaged in a physical altercation with an 18-year-old male.

A 59-year-old man intervened and the suspect began to strike him with a hammer, hitting him multiple times and causing injuries to his head and hand, police said.
Upon police arrival, Javier Antonio Lopez, 45, was placed under arrest without further incident, police said.

Both victims were transported to a local area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Javier Antonio Lopez was charged with second-degree assault; third-degree assault; and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
He will be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
