International Music And Dance Festival Brings The World To The New Rochelle Public Library
The free six-week festival offers something to delight everyone, no matter what corner of the globe holds your heart.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — This summer, the New Rochelle Public Library is ready to explore the diverse cultures of the world with you — no passports required.
The International Music and Dance Festival is returning to downtown New Rochelle for six weeks this summer, thanks to the New Rochelle Public Library (NRPL) and The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library.
A live performance will take place in the Ossie Davis Theater every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., from July 7 through August 11. A wide range of music and dance performances representing cultures from across the world will be offered.

"The International Music and Dance Festival is one of the Library’s most beloved traditions because it brings people together through shared cultural experiences," said Eugenia Schatoff, Executive Director of the New Rochelle Public Library. "As a civic gathering place that welcomes everyone, the Library is proud to present performances that celebrate the many cultures, traditions, and stories that enrich our community while creating opportunities for learning, connection, and discovery."
The festival kicks off on July 7 with Thai NY Life. Experience the serene charm of Northern Thailand, the soulful rhythms of Northeastern Isan, the graceful sophistication of Central Thailand, and the bold energy of the South as they come together to create a vibrant tapestry of Thai culture and tradition.

On July 14, hear the music of Antônio Carlos Jobim come alive in a new way with AfroJobim, a vibrant project led by Nanny Assis that highlights the Afro-Brazilian roots of bossa nova. This energetic performance features joyful rhythms and dances, including Samba and Baião from Northeastern Brazil.

On July 21, experience the dynamic sound of Isle of Klezbos, New York City's acclaimed all-women klezmer ensemble. Performing neo-folkloric tunes, reimagined standards, and genre-transcending originals, the ensemble’s rich arrangements range from rambunctious and swinging to lyrical and ethereal. This spirited performance brings Yiddish musical heritage to life with energy, humor, and heart. Presented as part of the Yiddish Book Center’s Public Libraries Program in partnership with the American Library Association and funded by Lilly Endowment Inc.
On July 28, prepare to be mesmerized by Aszmara and Souren Baronian's Transition Ensemble. Renowned dancer Aszmara will perform in dazzling costumes, accompanied by folkloric music from Armenia, Turkey, and Egypt. The ensemble features Robert Boghosian on oud, internationally acclaimed Souren Baronian on clarinet, kaval, and duduk, and Mal Stein on doumbek.
On August 4, experience the energy and beauty of West African culture with Bokandeye African American Dance Theater. Through dynamic dance, drumming, song, and storytelling rooted in the traditions of the Old Mali Empire, this engaging performance brings centuries of cultural heritage to life in a vibrant celebration for audiences of all ages.
The series culminates on August 11 with a grand finale presented by participants in the Calpulli Summer Mexican Dance Workshops. Adorned in colorful costumes, dancers of all ages will celebrate the rich regional traditions of Mexican folk dance. This performance will take place outdoors on the library patio adjacent to Ruby Dee Park.
