MATTITUCK, NY — Mattituck student artists have made their hometown proud.

Mattituck High School has been named one of only 26 schools statewide to be awarded the New York State Art Teachers Association Vision Endorsement, "an incredible honor that highlights the strength and impact of the district’s arts program," the district said.

According to school officials, the distinction recognizes that the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District "demonstrates a strong commitment to high-quality visual arts education; provides meaningful, inclusive, and innovative learning experiences for all students; supports artistic growth through a comprehensive and forward-thinking curriculum; and encourages creativity, critical thinking, and student voice in the arts."

"This achievement reflects the dedication of our talented students, supportive community, and passionate educators who continue to make the arts an essential part of our school culture," said Superintendent of Schools Shawn Petretti.

In addition to the program award, 15 students were recently chosen to have their artwork on display at the Parrish Art Museum, and the award winners for this year’s exhibit were announced.

Out of 16 senior awards, two were given to Mattituck seniors — Kate Nemschick and Amber Freeman.

Additionally, Elliana Knoeller was recognized as one of 10 "Ones to Watch" among ninth to 11th graders for her artistic talent.
