Moon, Rescued During Search For Missing Cat, Seeks Home: Northport Kitty Of The Week

NORTHPORT, NY — Moon, a sweet young black cat rescued during a continued search for another missing cat, is Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Cat of the Week.

Her story begins with Piper.

When Micheline moved from Florida to Long Island about a year ago, her beloved black cat, Piper, disappeared during the transition, according to NCRA.

Despite searches, sleepless nights and hope that Piper might still be found, the cat remains missing.

“But Micheline never stopped looking,” the rescue said.

Even now, whenever someone reports seeing a friendly black cat, Micheline goes to investigate, hoping the cat might be Piper.

“So far, every sighting has ended the same way,” NCRA said. “It wasn’t Piper.”

But because Piper is still missing, the rescue said, many other cats have been found along the way — scared cats, hungry cats, friendly cats that clearly belonged somewhere, and cats who needed someone to stop and help.

One of those cats was Moon.

When Micheline received another call about a friendly black cat, she went to the location hoping again that it might be Piper. Once again, it was not.

Instead, she found Moon, a young black cat who was affectionate, desperate for attention and clearly in need of rescue, NCRA said.

Without hesitation, Micheline brought Moon into Northport Cat Rescue Association’s care.

Today, Moon is thriving in foster care.

“At just about a year old, Moon is playful, affectionate, and happiest curled up beside her people,” the rescue said.

Moon enjoys being held, loves to cuddle and “has never met a stranger she didn’t charm,” according to NCRA.

The rescue says Moon gets along well with children, other cats and even dogs, making her a possible fit for many families.

“Everyone who meets Moon falls in love with her,” NCRA said.

Moon has attended several meet-and-greets, where the rescue said she has won people over with her gentle personality and affectionate nature.

Yet despite that, no one has submitted an adoption application for her.

“It simply doesn’t make sense to those who know her,” the rescue said.

Moon is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, litter box trained and has tested negative for FeLV and FIV. She is ready for a family of her own.

Piper, meanwhile, is still missing.

Every time the phone rings with another possible sighting, Micheline answers with hope, NCRA said. Even when the cat is not Piper, another cat often gets a second chance.

“Moon was one of those second chances,” the rescue said.

The rescue said Piper, “simply by being loved so deeply,” has helped save the lives of other cats, including Moon.

“One day, we hope one of those phone calls really will lead Micheline back to her beloved Piper,” NCRA said. “Until then, Northport Cat Rescue — and compassionate foster volunteers like Micheline — will continue answering every call and helping every cat they can.”

That includes Moon.

The rescue says Moon would be a loving companion for someone looking for a cat who will greet them at the door, curl up beside them on the couch and fill a home with affection.
