A WORLD BEYOND THE BOOKS

The exhibition also offers a fascinating glimpse into The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss—the remarkable private artwork Geisel created for himself, away from the pages of his famous books.

THE CAT BEHIND THE HAT
Ted Geisel often portrayed himself as “The Cat Behind the Hat,” a playful alter ego that appeared throughout his private art, advertising, and editorial work.
Although his artwork was highly sought after during his lifetime, Geisel never released limited-edition fine art. In 1997, six years after his passing, his artistic legacy was formally introduced to collectors, revealing Dr. Seuss as not only a literary icon, but a remarkably original visual artist.
Each work in the collection is authorized by the Dr. Seuss estate and faithfully adapted from Geisel’s original artwork.
