Gold Coast Forum

Gold Coast Forum presents an evening with the Former President of the Rauch Foundation, Nancy R. Douzinas, as she discusses and signs her new book, New Ways of Working Together: A Role for Philanthropy. Douzinas will be in conversation with Rep. Steve Israel and editorial editor at Newsday, Rita Ciolli.
Gold Coast Forum is a not-for-profit organization focused on educating and informing all about the importance of books and literature by hosting vitally important authors and literary figures, providing a nonpartisan forum to discuss art, culture, history, business, and politics. Become a supporter of Gold Coast Forum here!
Registration is required.
There will be limited copies of New Ways of Working Together available for purchase at the event courtesy of Theodore's Books. ABOUT THE BOOK: We are in the early days of a potentially cataclysmic shift away from government financial support for non-profits. This financial collapse crosses the spectrum of programmatic areas: science, medicine, education, transportation, agriculture, the environment, arts and culture and more. Philanthropy as traditionally practiced at the institutional, family foundation, or individual level cannot close the funding gap. We are also on the cusp of the largest transfer of wealth in US history. Those in a position to give need new ways to operate in a dramatically different ecosystem.
New Ways of Working Together: A Role for Philanthropy recounts how the Rauch Foundation, a privately administered family philanthropy established in the 1960s, drastically redefined its role with the goal of achieving far greater regional impact on Long Island. Their evolution meant forming organic, tri-sector alliances, where stakeholders can come together to nimbly solve community problems without the weight of formal structures. While the story centers on the challenges Long Island faced, it offers insights applicable to any region in need and specific steps philanthropic leaders can adopt.
The book profiles numerous individuals whose expertise and commitment contributed to the Rauch Foundation's breakthrough successes. These profiles suggest the diversity and availability of the sort of “outsiders” foundations should be actively recruiting to enhance their capacity for affecting meaningful change.
NANCY R. DOUZINAS started her philanthropic journey as a practicing psychologist and family therapy. Later, she became the president of the Rauch Foundation, which was founded by her father and her uncle as an expression of what was important to them. Douzinas had the opportunity to rethink and redirect the mission of the Rauch Foundation, and she strives to share what the foundation did and learned, both the missteps and the major successes, with others who face the ever-changing challenges and bear the great responsibility of running a family foundation.
PLEASE NOTE: All books signed at this event must be purchased from Theodore's Books. If you purchase your copy in advance, please save your receipt.

ABOUT THE BOOK: A deep dive into Dawson's Creek, one of the most popular teen dramas of all-time, full of never-before-heard stories and behind-the-scenes insight into fan-favorite characters, from one of the show's stars, Kerr Smith.
Welcome back to Dawson's Creek, where the banter is fast-paced, a soulful, pop music soundtrack underscores every emotional moment, and friendships have the potential to turn on a dime and transform into something more. Written by one of its stars, the nostalgic trip down memory lane of the WB's paradigm-shifting show will transport fans back to Capeside, Massachusetts, revealing all the fun, romance, friendships, and drama that occurered – on screen and off – in that charming coastal place we know as Dawson's Creek.
From episode deep dived to wild stories of crazy days on set and crazier nights after filming wrapped, Dawson's star Kerr Smith takes us behind the scenes of classic show that kickstarted the teen TV revolution of the late 90s and early 2000s. Featuring interviews with his fellow cast members, crew, network and studio executives, creator Kevin Williamson and the writing staff, Smith has produced the ultimate yearbook for Capeside High, revealing the origin stories of Dawson, Percy, Joey, Jen, and others; providing insights on how classic Dawson's storylines came to be – and how a few almost didn't – while telling his own personal story, from growing up in a small town of his own to what it was like to be part of that iconic gay kiss on American primetime?
I Don't Want to Wait is the ultimate chronicle of a show that fans can't help but return to, time and time again. As Joey Potter would tell you, "Things change. People change." But Dawson's Creek is forever.
Kerr Smith is best known for his role as Jack McPhee on The WB's Dawson's Creek. He is also known for his portrayal of Kyle Brody on Charmed and Ryan Thomas on Life Unexpected. Over the years he has had roles on NCIS, The Fosters, Criminal Minds, and Riverdale among many others. His film credits include Final Destination and My Bloody Valentine.

American Legion Huntington Post 360

The New York Roots Music Association (NYRMA) will turn back the clock to one of the most remarkable years in popular music when it presents “ROOTS ’66” on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at American Legion Post 360, 1 Mill Dam Road in Huntington. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased in advance (Highly Recommended!).
ROOTS ’66 is a live celebration of the music New Yorkers heard coming through their radios in 1966, focusing on the records played by the two great Top 40 rivals of the era: 77 WABC and WMCA 57.
For anyone who grew up in the New York area during the 1960s, those call letters meant much more than radio stations. WABC and WMCA provided the soundtrack to everyday life—coming through car radios, kitchen radios and the little transistor radios that seemed to go everywhere.
And what a soundtrack it was.
In 1966, the definition of “Top 40” was remarkably broad. On any given day, listeners might hear The Beatles and The Rolling Stones followed by The Supremes, The Temptations or Stevie Wonder. There was blue-eyed soul from The Rascals, folk-rock from The Mamas & the Papas, pop from The Monkees, garage rock from ? and the Mysterians, sophisticated songwriting from Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and powerful voices like Percy Sledge, Dusty Springfield and Johnny Rivers.
ROOTS ’66 will recreate that musical variety onstage with songs including “Paint It Black,” “Summer in the City,” “I’m a Believer,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “You Can’t Hurry Love,” “96 Tears,” “I Fought the Law,” “Kicks,” “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” “Good Lovin’” and many more.
More than 40 musicians and singers will participate in the production. Rather than presenting a conventional tribute band, each song will feature a different lead vocalist, backed by The NYRMA All Stars, creating a constantly changing lineup throughout the evening and allowing each selection to have its own musical personality.
Just as important as the records were the voices that introduced them.
WABC listeners in 1966 started their weekdays with Herb Oscar Anderson, followed during the day by Ron Lundy and the legendary Dan Ingram. Evenings belonged to “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, followed by Chuck Leonard. Across the dial, WMCA’s famous “Good Guys” included Joe O’Brien, Harry Harrison, Jack Spector, “Dandy Dan” Daniel, Gary Stevens and Dean Anthony.
Those personalities made radio feel personal. They joked with listeners, counted down the hits, introduced new records and became celebrities in their own right. The friendly but fierce competition between WABC and WMCA helped make New York one of the most exciting radio markets in America.
ROOTS ’66 is designed to recapture some of that experience—not simply presenting a collection of hits, but celebrating a time when millions of New Yorkers could hear an astonishing range of music simply by turning on the radio.
The setting for the evening is also distinctly local. American Legion Post 360, overlooking Huntington Harbor at 1 Mill Dam Road, has long served Huntington-area veterans and the surrounding community. The Post continues to take an active role in local veterans’ events and community activities, while its renovated hall has also become a home for live music, fundraisers, reunions and other gatherings. The Legion features a full cash bar. There is limtied on site parking.
For NYRMA, that combination of community and live music makes the Legion an ideal setting for ROOTS ’66. They will also be accepting donations of healthy, non-perishable food items to be distributed to our neighbors in need through RockCanRoll. You can find a list of their most needed items here: rockcanroll.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/MOSTNEEDEDFOODLIST.pdf
The New York Roots Music Association brings together musicians from throughout the Long Island and New York music community to produce ambitious live shows built around a musical theme. Its productions emphasize collaboration, with singers and instrumentalists from different bands and musical backgrounds coming together for one-of-a-kind performances.
