Plainview Water District to Host Second Annual “Touch-A-Truck” Event on May 9 for the POB Community
Family-Friendly Event Returns After Successful Debut, Inviting Residents to Explore the Big Trucks That Help Deliver High-Quality Water.

Following the success of its inaugural event last year, the Plainview Water District (PWD) is excited to announce the return of its Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, May 9th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the District Headquarters at 10 Manetto Hill Road in Plainview. This free, family-friendly event is open to all Plainview-Old Bethpage (POB) residents and will once again offer an up-close look at the heavy-duty vehicles and specialized equipment used to maintain and improve the District’s essential drinking water infrastructure, along with fun giveaways for children in attendance.
Last year’s Touch-A-Truck event welcomed dozens of local families and quickly became a standout community event, giving residents a hands-on opportunity to connect with the District’s work in a fun and engaging way.
“We were thrilled by the turnout and enthusiasm from the community at our first Touch-A-Truck event,” said PWD Commissioner Marc Laykind. “Bringing it back for a second year allows us to build on that momentum and continue giving families a behind-the-scenes look at the important work we do every day to deliver high-quality, reliable water.”

Children and families will once again have the opportunity to explore PWD’s fleet of large trucks, take photos, and speak directly with the Board of Commissioners and the District’s skilled team members who operate the machinery. Several of the District’s community partners are also expected to return with their own specialized vehicles that support water system operations.
“Seeing kids taking photos with the trucks, asking questions, and being excited about what we do was a highlight for all of us last year,” said PWD Commissioner Andrew Bader. “Our Touch-a-Truck is a great way to make our work more visible and to strengthen our connection with the community we serve.”

The event is part of the District’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and public education. From infrastructure upgrades to routine maintenance, the equipment on display represents the many moving parts involved in delivering high-quality water to local homes and businesses.
“Touch-A-Truck is a perfect example of how we work to make water education accessible and fun,” said PWD Commissioner Michael Chad. “By building on last year’s success, we’re continuing to inspire curiosity and help residents, especially young people, better understand where their water comes from and why it’s so important to protect it.”
The Plainview Water District remains committed to providing educational and engaging programs that bring the community together. The return of the Touch-A-Truck event marks another exciting step in fostering transparency, awareness, and appreciation for the essential services the District provides.
