Briarcliff Manor Kindergarteners Take Flight On A Pigeon Hunt

Did you hear there was a pigeon on the loose at Todd Elementary School last week? Not to worry. Our kindergarteners were on the case!

These budding detectives traveled throughout the building in search of the grumpy and funny Pigeon from Mo Willems’ book The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! Along the way, students learned the routes to new destinations, including the main office, library, gymnasium, cafeteria, and music and art rooms.

Pigeon left clue cards at every stop, and the young learners HAD to figure out where he had flown off to next.

Students were greeted by staff members along the way, and they had plenty of questions. While searching for clues, one kindergartener, Harrison, was not only curious about Pigeon. He also wondered whether Ms. Michaelidis knew his brother.

“Do you know John?” he asked. “He’s my brother!”

“Of course I do,” she replied with a smile. “We know all our students.”

Pigeon’s final clues were found in the cafeteria and on the playground, but the kindergarteners still hadn’t found him. Even more confusing, the clues led them right back to their classroom.

As they stepped inside Ms. Coleman’s room, they looked everywhere, but Pigeon was nowhere to be found. That is, until Ms. Coleman peeked inside a basket and discovered the feathered book character hiding inside!

After successfully finding not only Pigeon, but also their way throughout the school, it was time for recess, and they knew just how to get to the playground!
