PORT JEFFERSON, NY — The Liberty Clipper — Long Island's largest tall ship — will be leaving her new home in Port Jefferson Harbor on Thursday, to sail out as one of the official U.S. flag vessels in America's 250th anniversary Tall Ships Parade in New York City.

Built in 1983 in Mystic, CT, the clipper is a 125-foot traditionally rigged tall ship and the largest of its kind sailing on Long Island. Since making port in the harbor, the ship has been available for public daytime and sunset sails, private charters, and seasonal special events.

The ship will return to Port Jefferson, starting on Aug. 8.
