Cat Returned To Shelter After Family's 'Lifestyle Changed'

Leonardo's family surrendered him after they said they had less time for him, and now the 3-year-old cat is looking for a new home.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — After living with what Leonardo thought would be his forever family, the cat was brought back to the shelter through no fault of his own.

The shelter was told his family's lifestyle had changed and the family had less time to care for Leonardo, prompting their decision to give him up for adoption.

As a kitten, Leonardo was adopted fast, but being back at North Shore Animal League America's Port Washington, the 3-year-old cat is struggling.

He is missing the peace, quiet, and consistency of a loving home, shelter staff said.

Although Leonardo has Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease, the shelter created a plan to manage it and his special meals are covered at cost through their Pet Health Centers, along with other FLUTD-related expenses.

"Now Leonardo just needs someone to help restore his confidence with a comfortable place to land, reassuring head rubs, and a promise to love him furever," shelter staff said.
