In addition, the band will demonstrate its own artistry and musical skill with a program of classic compositions for concert band. Variations on a Korean Folksong takes the traditional folk song Ariring and sets it to Western tonal techniques with percussion instruments that add Eastern character. The Pilgrim’s Chorus from Wagner’s opera Tannhäuser is a reverent hymn, and Holst’s First Suite in Eb is a three movement mainstay of concert band literature.
Other programmed music include music by Richard Strauss and Paul Murtha.
