String Of Thefts In Calverton Leads To Arrest: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was arrested after reported larcenies in Calverton, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, on Saturday at about 6:59 a.m., officers responded to the area of Deep Hill Road in Calverton after the report of damage to a vehicle, with items being removed.

A short time later, multiple residents of North Woods Road in Calverton reported that items had been stolen from their vehicles; a resident also reported the theft of property from an open garage, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division conducted an investigation and identified a suspect, police said.

A Riverhead Police K-9 unit was notified and responded to assist in the investigation; the K-9 unit was able to locate numerous items believed to be proceeds, police said.

On Sunday at 10:40 a.m., Tyree Dawson, 34, who is without a known address in Riverhead, was arrested in the area of Deep Hole Road and North Wood Road in Calverton, police said.

He was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, and third-degree criminal mischief, all felonies, police said.

He was transported to Riverhead Town police headquarters, where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
