Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: 'Run Your Y' 5K Run and Walk

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

"Run Your Y" 5K and Walk

Volunteers are needed to assist One Paso and Yonkers Running Project with the "Run Your Y" 5K, a community-centered run and walk promoting mental wellness through movement. Volunteer roles include setup and cleanup, distributing bibs and waters, snapping photos, and greeting guests. Perfect for volunteers 16+.
Date: 5/9 from 6-11 a.m.; multiple opportunities

Farmers Market Waste Warriors

Volunteer Waste Warriors teach visitors at the weekly Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow (TaSH) Farmers Market all about zero-waste options, such as composting and recycling, to help inspire them to make more eco-friendly choices at home. Volunteers are provided with all the materials they need. This is the perfect opportunity for students who require community service hours.

Community Garden Kickoff and Grow Bag Giveaway

Join D.I.G. Farm, First Presbyterian Church, and the Zeta Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for the second annual Community Garden Kickoff and Free Grow Bag Giveaway. Help get the garden prepped and planted and take home your own grow bag! This is a fun day with vendors, music, and community. Perfect for ages 14+; volunteers who are 3+ can register as part of an adult's team.

Sheep Shearing Committee

Celebrate Mother's Day at Muscoot Farm during its annual Sheep Shearing Day—a hands-on, educational event that highlights the shearing of the farm's sheep and the journey from fleece to fiber! Muscoot Farm is looking for friendly, helpful volunteers to assist with event setup, welcoming guests, supporting the wool processing station, and guiding families through fun fiber crafts. Volunteers will help demonstrate simple wool prep techniques (like skirting and carding), oversee activity tables, and ensure a smooth and engaging experience for all visitors. No experience is necessary—training is provided on the day of. Come dressed for the weather and wear comfortable shoes!
