WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — West Hempstead School District joined schools across Long Island in welcoming students back Wednesday, marking the end of Summer and the beginning of a school year that will take them through to 2027.

According to district officials, the first day of school was marked by a spirit of excitement as students rejoined their friends and met a new crop of teachers.

“From enthusiastic greetings in the hallways to busy classrooms settling into their first activities, there was a sense of excitement throughout the district as students got back into the school-day routine,” District officials said.

District administrators were shuttling between school buildings Wednesday to welcome students and teachers back, or, in the case of pre-k and kindergarten students, welcome them to the district for the first time.

“Once inside their classrooms, students jumped into activities designed to help them get comfortable, get to know their teachers and make new friends,” the district said. “There were plenty of curious looks, big smiles and eager faces as the newest students began discovering their classrooms and all that school has to offer.”
