Rockville Centre Gas Station Robbery Leads To Arrest: PD

A Hempstead man was arrested after a September robbery, police say.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — A Hempstead man has been arrested after a September gas station robbery in Rockville Centre, Nassau County police said.

According to police, on September 14 at 3:42 a.m., a man entered the BP Gas Station on Sunrise Highway and demanded cash from the register.

After a 64-year-old male employee refused, Saifuddin Abdus-Samad, 56, struck the employee in the face with a knife, causing a laceration. Abdus-Samad took cash from the register and fled on foot, police said.

The employee was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, police said.

Abdus-Samad was located in Long Beach on Oct. 8 and was placed under arrest, police said.

According to police, he was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of first-degree assault. He will be arraigned on Oct. 8 in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
