This Week In Rockville Centre: House Pelted With Tennis Balls, DWI, PayPal Scam, Police Say

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — The Rockville Centre police department released its weekly report Monday, detailing arrests and incidents within the village between Aug. 17 and Aug. 23.

This week, police included seven incidents in the report, including an attempted PayPal scam, a house being pelted with tennis balls and a man being struck in the head and robbed.

The items listed are as follows:

On Aug. 17 at 1:23 p.m., police said a DPW employee reported several instances of graffiti in the village, including on parking meters, an electric pole and a Banks Avenue wall.

On Aug. 18 at 3:36 p.m., a Reeve Road woman said she had been contacted by someone pretending to be a PayPal employee and claiming there was a suspicious charge on her account, police said. According to police, the person said he had tried to credit back the money to the woman’s account but sent too much, and asked her to send him the difference. The woman, police said, sent him $4,000 before realizing she had been scammed.

On Aug. 18 at 10:11 p.m., a North Forest Avenue man said young people in masks were throwing tennis balls at his house, police said.

On Aug. 20 at 7:54 a.m., an Essex Lane woman said her wallet and car keys had been taken from her car while it was left unlocked in her driveway overnight, police said. According to police, the woman reported that her cards had been used fraudulently after the theft.

On Aug. 21 at 5:45 p.m., a Meehan Lane man said two people approached him while he was walking around his neighborhood, hit him in the head and took his money, police said.

On Aug. 23 at 4:35 a.m., 30-year-old Erik Aranda-Contreras was arrested and charged with DWI after his car was seen swerving on Peninsula Boulevard, police said.

On Aug. 23 at 12:21 p.m., a Raymond Street man said someone had opened a phone plan and taken out a car loan in his name using his information without his permission, police said.
