Hometown Haunt Gets A Shoutout On The Floor Of The U.S. House

RYE, NY — Rep. George Latimer took to the House Floor to mark an occasion many of us would be happy to raise a glass to.

The congressman representing New York's 16th Congressional District put a family-owned business on the record, and in the annals of history. The Rye native and former Westchester County Executive let the rest of the world in on one of the Sound Shore's best kept secrets by celebrating the 50th anniversary of Kelly's Sea Level in Rye.

"Thank you Mr. Speaker. Today I want to salute the 50th anniversary celebration of an institution in my home community in Rye, Kelly's Sea Level," Latimer said in his remarks before the House. "The big shindig is planned for the month of August, a little later on, at this iconic restaurant and bar that has welcomed locals and visitors since 1966."

Latimer attributed the local establishment's success in part to the family-run business's connection to its community.

"Visiting Kelly's is to be at home for the locals from Rye, Harrison, Port Chester, Greenwich; the financiers, the college kids home for the holidays; the hard working firefighters — and the occasional congressman," Latimer said. "They all come to Kelly's each week. And we know the menu, the bartenders, the waitstaff, and all those little things that the locals know, like the two-seat table known as the 'oak room.'"
