Sayville Woman Arrested In Hit-And-Run That Seriously Injured Jogger: Police

A Sayville jogger suffered serious injuries after being struck by an SUV whose driver fled the scene, police said.

SAYVILLE, NY — A West Sayville woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash which seriously injured a jogger in Sayville, Suffolk County police said.

Heather Foster, 50, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury after detectives determined she was involved in the May 16 crash on Brook Street, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, Michele Walters, 60, of Sayville, was jogging west of Cherry Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting an injured woman lying on the side of the road around 5:44 a.m., police said. Walters was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.

Following an investigation, Fifth Precinct officers arrested Foster on Cherry Avenue in Sayville around 9:28 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Detectives also executed a search warrant at Foster’s Lorraine Circle home in West Sayville and seized evidence, including the 2021 Mazda CX-5 believed to have been involved in the crash, police said.

Foster was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
