Greenburgh: Cars may be towed if parked on town streets overnight
highway crews need to be able to plow roads during snow events.
SOME CARS WILL BE TOWED IF PARKED ON TOWN STREETS
WE NEED ROADS TO BE CLEAR OF CARS SO TOWN CAN REMOVE SNOW
The anticipated snowstorm is going to be significant. If cars are parked on town streets between 1 AM and 6 AM they may be towed. During most previous storms we have been reluctant to tow cars. But the parked cars on town streets are making it very difficult for the town to clear the roads of snow. So towing companies have been contacted and during this storm there will be enforcement of cars that are violating the ordinance -especially if the parked cars are negatively impacting our ability to keep roads safe. Recently, the police have been issuing more tickets to those violating the law.

The winter parking ban (Dec 1 to March 15th) is aimed at allowing snowplows and DPW crews to clear streets safely. Hardship exemptions can be applied for, but they do NOT APPLY during an active snow emergency. So, if you have a hardship permit the cars must be removed during this snow event.
During the day please also keep cars off the roads. It’s difficult for the plows to do a good job when cars are on roads.

Also – during events like the one we are anticipating – roads could be slippery and it’s very possible that your car could be damaged. I recall an incident that took place years ago. A town truck skidded into another vehicle that was parked on the road, and we were advised that the town legally did not have to reimburse the vehicle owner for damages.
I spoke with the commissioner earlier and he advised that you could park your car on your lawn if you don’t have space. You can also park your cars at Richard Presser Park on Central Avenue, AF Veteran Park (where town pool is) on Heatherdell Rd or at E Rumbrook Park off of Dobbs Ferry Road.
We’re sorry for any inconveniences and thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
