Girl, 2, Found In Suffolk Pool Dies: 'Her Absence Has Left An Unimaginable Hole In All Our Hearts'

MASTIC BEACH, NY —A little girl, 2, found unresponsive in a pool at her Mastic Beach home, has died, police said.

And now, her heartbroken family is facing unspeakable grief, faced with the unthinkable task of burying their beautiful girl.

Services for Kaeleigh Jane Polini will be held on Tuesday, July 28, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Moloney-Sinnicksons Funeral Home, located at 203 Main Street in Center Moriches.

She will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 29, at noon at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, located at 41 Main Street in Center Moriches.

The family has seen devastating heartbreak in recent years: Their son Nicholas also died as a preemie, leaving hearts forever shattered by agonizing grief.

A GoFundMe page, "In Loving Memory of Kaeleigh Jane Polini," has been created by Dana Polini.

"No parent ever imagines having to say good-bye to their child," the page said.

"Our family is devastated by the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Jesse and Kate’s beautiful 2-year-old daughter, Kaeleigh. What began as an ordinary day ended in an unimaginable tragedy that has forever changed their lives."

Kaeleigh, she wrote, "was a beautiful, sweet little girl who brought so much joy to everyone who knew her. She was deeply loved by her parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her absence has left an immeasurable hole in all of our hearts."

She added: "As Jesse and Kate face the overwhelming grief of losing their precious little girl, they are also carrying the unexpected financial burden while continuing to care for their three other children. These costs came without warning during the most painful time imaginable.

"We are asking our family, friends, and community to come together and help ease some of this financial burden so they can focus on grieving, supporting one another, and helping their children through this heartbreaking loss," she said. "Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean more than words can express. If you are unable to contribute financially, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping their family in your thoughts and prayers."

And, the page continued: "From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, love, and support during this unimaginable time."

Germer Polini also thanked those who have opened their hearts to help with the GoFundMe. The couple has three children at home, heartbroken. "We’re doing everything we can to get them what they need and to help them but, honestly, financial worries make us afraid we’ll have to jump back when the kids still need us ."

"My sweet Kaeleigh Jane, being your mom is the greatest, most joyful and beautiful privilege I could’ve ever wished for," Germer Polini wrote on social medial. "You’re an absolute light, my beautiful girl. You brought so much happiness to everyone who has had the privilege of being around you and loving you. You are warmth and love and happiness. I will forever miss the sound of your laugh . . . the comfort of your hugs. I hope you know how absolutely loved you are. "

According to Suffolk County police, the Kaeleigh died on July 23 at Stony Brook University Hospital.

On Monday, July 20, at about 4:50 p.m. at a home on Mill Drive, she was found unresponsive in the pool, police said.

She was removed from the pool and a family member performed CPR until first responders arrived, police said.

She was transported to NYU Langone Hospital - Suffolk in Patchogue in critical condition, and then transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she died, police said.
