Here's what really happened at Smith Point County Park Wednesday, according to police.
SHIRLEY-MASTIC, NY — After seeing police cars and helicopters in the Shirley-Mastic area Wednesday, residents turned to social media with questions about what was unfolding.
Suffolk County police told Patch that officers responded to the report of a possible missing person at Smith Point County Park at about 5:45 p.m.
A beachgoer reported they saw a man fishing in the water and then no longer saw him, police said.

Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department's marine bureau, aviation section, and the Seventh Precinct, as well Suffolk County park rangers conducted a search, police said.
No missing person or overdue boaters/fishmen reports were filed, police said.

All cars that were in the parking lot at the time of the call had left the location by the end of the evening, and the report was determined to be unfounded, police said.
Next, police said officers responded to a barricaded individual at a residence on Neptune Avenue in Mastic at about 5:40 p.m. The situation was resolved peacefully at about 8:40 p.m., police said.
