Suffolk Parks Officials Continuing To Assess Nor'Easter Damage; Cleanup To Last 1 More Day: Exec

SHIRLEY, NY — Suffolk parks department officials are continuing to evaluate the damage from the nor’easter, County Executive Ed Romaine said in a Facebook post on Monday night.

In the post, which included drone footage of the damage at Smith Point County Park in Shirley, Romaine advised residents to check with specific campsites ahead of making plans for camping.

Tent camping is currently closed at the beach, Romaine's office said.

Last week, he expressed concern about erosion at the beach, where the waves were rolling over the bottom of the steps from the pavilion to the beach. Over the course of the storm, the bottom portion of the steps washed away, and part of the railing became detached.

A spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers told Patch that the agency will be inspecting the beach.

As far as overall cleanup is concerned, Romaine said in his Facebook post that all the county's roads "are traversable," and the county's [Department of Public Works] anticipates one more day of debris cleanup.

"As always, call 311 to report any downed trees on county roadways," he said. "Stay safe."
