Smithtown East, West Make LI Volleyball History With Outdoor Matches

SMITHTOWN, NY — Smithtown High School East and Smithtown High School West took their volleyball rivalry outdoors Aug. 31 for what the district said were the first official outdoor high school volleyball matches on Long Island.

The matches, held at Smithtown High School East, were the culmination of months of planning.

“Our East girls coach, George Alamia, came to me with this proposal,” Smithtown Central School District Director of Athletics Jason Lambert said. “Took a lot of meetings, community support, and it finally came to fruition. It exceeded expectations; I didn't know it would look this good!”

High School West senior Logan Singleton said he was blown away by the outdoor court.

“I had no idea this was possible,” Singleton said.

High School East senior Brianna Cerullo was equally impressed.

“It looks super cool,” Cerullo said. “It's amazing our program was able to do this for us.”
