Smithtown High School West Welcomes New Principal

SMITHTOWN, NY — Smithtown High School West has a new principal, the Smithtown Central School District announced.

Jon Macaluso, who spent the past six years as an assistant principal at Great Hollow Middle School, said he jumped at the opportunity to lead one of Smithtown’s two high schools.

“It feels amazing,” Macaluso said. “To be able to come and be a leader of this building is very humbling, and to have the opportunity to guide high school students and help prepare them for college and beyond is really a privilege. I’m looking forward to it.”

Macaluso earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from SUNY Geneseo and a master’s degree in school counseling from LIU Post. He later received a second master’s degree in school administration from Touro College.

Macaluso began his career as a school counselor in the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District, where he worked for six years. He later became an administrator and served for two years as an assistant principal at Northport High School.

He also served as a district director of guidance in the Commack and Connetquot central school districts before joining Smithtown.

“Working in the district for six years, I’m looking forward to not only revisiting with students who I knew from years ago, but also familiarizing myself with other students and working with the great staff at High School West,” he said.
