Fire Breaks Out At Same Hamptons Residence As Recent Home Invasion Burglary: PD

The fire broke out Tuesday night in Southampton, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A fire broke out in Southampton Tuesday night at the same residence where a home invasion burglary was recently reported, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, at about 10:56 p.m., a 911 call came in regarding an active structure fire on West Neck Road. Units from the patrol division responded to the location and confirmed the residence was ablaze, police said.

The Southampton Fire Department, North Sea Fire Department, Hampton Bays Fire Department and Bridgehampton Fire Department were all activated to extinguish the fire, police said.

Southampton Town detectives, along with Southampton Town fire marshals, were requested to the scene to conduct a follow-up investigation, police said.

The Southampton Town Police Department confirmed that the location was the same residence that was involved in an early-morning home invasion burglary that was reported to police on September 17.

That incident led to the discovery of 1,000 lbs. of marijuana — and an arrest, police said. Also during the September 17 incident, responding officers from the patrol division arrived to find a sole injured party who was conscious and alert and suffering from a laceration to his head, police said.

"At this time, it is premature to indicate the two incidents are related and the investigation is ongoing," police said.

The Southampton Town Police Department asked that anyone with information on any criminal activity call Southampton Town police at 631-728-5000, the Southampton Town Police Department's detective division at 631-702-2230, or the crime hot line at 631-728-3454. All calls will be kept confidential. Those with information can also email crimetips@southamptontownny.gov.
