Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Utility Pole In Shinnecock Hills: PD

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Hampton Bays man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash Friday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at 10:40 p.m. Southampton Town police patrol officers responded to the area of North Road and Old North Highway in Shinnecock Hills for a report of a one- car motor vehicle crash, police said.

Officers found a 2009 Hyundai that had left the roadway and collided with a utility pole, police said.

Further investigation done by officers on scene revealed that the driver, Fernando Reyes Cruz, 25, was operating in an intoxicated condition, police said.

He was arrested at the scene and then transported to police headquarters for processing, police said.

Cruz was charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, DWI, a misdemeanor, and several traffic infractions, police said.

He was held overnight for morning arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.

No injuries were reported in the crash, police said.
