Southampton Man Charged With DWI Resisted Arrest: Police

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Southampton man was arrested early Friday after driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at 12:37 a.m. A Southampton Town police officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound on County Road 39, in the vicinity of State Route 27, in violation of several New York State vehicle and traffic laws, authorities said.

Upon further investigation, the driver, Michael Moncada, 35, was determined to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated and while his license was suspended, police said.

Subsequently, officers informed Moncada that he was under arrest, police said.

While officers were attempting to apply handcuffs, Moncada resisted arrest and attempted to thwart the efforts of the arresting officers, police said.

Ultimately, the officers were able to gain control of Moncada and place him under arrest, police said.

Moncada was transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing, police said.

He was charged with misdemeanor DWI; resisting arrest, a misdemeanor; second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor; and several other New York State vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.

Moncada was held overnight and was scheduled to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court for morning arraignment, police said.
