Best School Districts In Nassau County Ranked In New 2027 Study

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Roslyn Union Free School District was ranked the best school district in Nassau County — and the best in New York — in Niche's newly released 2027 Best Schools and Districts rankings.

The district ranked No. 2 in the nation, behind only Glenbrook High School District 225 in Illinois. Syosset Central School District, meanwhile, ranked No. 2 in Nassau County, No. 2 in New York and No. 3 nationwide.

Roslyn received an A+ overall grade. The district has 3,329 students in pre-K through 12th grade and a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1, according to Niche.

Syosset Central School District followed Roslyn at No. 2 in Nassau County, while Jericho Union Free School District ranked third, Manhasset Union Free School District fourth and Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District fifth. All five received A+ overall grades.

Syosset also claimed the county's top spot in Niche's separate public high school rankings. Syosset Senior High School received an A+ overall grade and ranked No. 1 among Nassau public high schools. It also ranked No. 33 among more than 20,000 public high schools nationwide.

Niche's private high school rankings put Friends Academy in Locust Valley at No. 1 in Nassau County, followed by Portledge School, also in Locust Valley.

Friends Academy received an A+ overall grade and has 664 students and a 4-to-1 student-teacher ratio.

Niche's 2027 district rankings are based on an analysis of statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents, using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, teacher quality and public school district ratings.

Niche removed SAT and ACT scores from this year's rankings, citing the broader de-emphasis on standardized test scores in college admissions.

The methodology for individual schools varies by category. Niche says its public high school rankings analyze academic and student-life data, while its private school rankings include factors such as the colleges students consider, student-teacher ratios and private-school ratings.

Nationwide, Niche ranked Glenbrook High School District 225 in Illinois first, followed by Roslyn, Syosset, New Trier Township High School District No. 203 in Illinois and Scarsdale Union Free School District in New York.
