Town Of Oyster Bay Hiring Camp Counselors For Summer GAP Program

Positions support children and young adults with developmental disabilities in Woodbury and Massapequa.

SYOSSET-WOODBURY, NY — Camp counselors are in need at the summer GAP program in Woodbury and Massapequa.

The Town of Oyster Bay is hiring counselors for the day camp, which is designed for developmentally disabled children and young adults ages five to 21 years old.

Supervisor Saladino said the GAP program encourages socialization in a group setting.

"With the support and encouragement of our excellent staff, participants develop friendships that extend well beyond the program," he said.

The camp will be from June 29th to August 7th at two park locations — Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa, and Syosset-Woodbury Park in Woodbury.

"By becoming a counselor for the Town’s GAP program, you’ll help to create a supportive and empowering environment where every camper can shine," Councilman Andrew Monteleone said.

The two jobs currently listed and requirements are as follows:

  • Recreation Aide:
    • At least 16 years old.
  • Activities Specialist:
    • Bachelor's degree in special education and 1,600 hours working with people with special needs
    • OR
    • Bachelor's degree in any subject and 2,080 hours working with people with special needs.
