Flood mitigation measures to be taken in E Irvington this week to reduce flooding issues

Just got off the phone with the Commissioner of Public Works, Frank Morabito. Last week’s storm resulted in flooding on Taxter Road. Thankfully, the Commissioner and our DPW team are taking
prompt action. Work is starting that could help reduce flooding during storms. It should take DPW staff about two weeks to complete the work. We are installing new drainpipes across Taxter Road, a culvert box at basin and opening up a head wall that is clogged. The work will not solve all the flooding problems, but it will help. Some trees that are contributing to the flooding will have to be removed. I am grateful to the Commissioner and the staff of DPW for taking prompt action to address this important problem. When I spoke with the Commissioner last week and asked how long it would take the department to respond to residents’ concerns he said a few days. Can’t ask for anything better!
The Commissioner indicated that we are waiting for permission from the utilities to clear approvals to dig the grounds (dig safe ticket). Should take a day or so.
The construction of the new sidewalk on Taxter Road should start a week from today.
