Rockland Driver Found Asleep At Wheel On I-87 In Westchester With BAC Over 3X The Legal Limit: NYSP

GREENBURGH, NY — A Hudson Valley driver was arrested after police say he made a dangerous decision.

The New York State Police say that troopers from Tarrytown arrested 51-year-old Richard Joffre Lara-Bohorquez, of Nyack, after he was found asleep at the wheel while parked on the shoulder of the NYS Thruway.

On May 1, shortly before 6 p.m., troopers saw a 2008 Toyota sedan parked on the right shoulder of I-87, in the town of Greenburgh.

The vehicle was running and the driver, identified as Lara-Bohorquez, was asleep in the driver's seat, police said. While speaking with Lara-Bohorquez, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, troopers noticed signs of impairment and administered standard field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to cops.

Lara-Bohorquez was then arrested for DWI and taken to SP Tarrytown for processing, where he registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.28 percent, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to NYSP.

He was released to a sober third party and is due in Greenburgh Town Court on May 19.
