South Street Seaport Museum announces Elements of Wonder: When Nature Becomes Art

Event Details
Plan your visit to the South Street Seaport Museum to see the captivating outdoor photographic exhibition Elements of Wonder: When Nature Becomes Art which opens Wednesday, April 22, 2026, on the cobblestone streets in front of the Museum from 207–211 Water Street. The works on view are by Australian conservation and nature photographer Jon McCormack. seaportmuseum.org/wonder
In partnership with Photoville, this temporary exhibition features a selection of works from the artist’s decade-long environmental photography project that spans five continents. As you walk around the large-scale photographs you will see how the work explores the natural world at radically different scales—from microscopic mineral formations to aerial views of rivers and coastlines, revealing recurring patterns of form, structure, and movement. Through these engaging pieces, McCormack will reintroduce you to a sense of wonder and awe, and invite a slower, more attentive way of seeing.
As you move between the intimate and the immense, the quiet architecture of the natural world is revealed—its rhythms, textures, and hidden harmonies. These images ask you to pause, to look more deeply, and to remember our collective place within a living, breathing system far larger than ourselves. In attending to beauty, fragility, and interconnectedness, the work offers an invitation not only to witness the world, but to care for it.
This limited-time outdoor exhibition is free and open to all—no registration or General Admission is required. Stroll through the historic streets of the Seaport and explore the displays at your own pace.
