157 Health Code Violations Later, Tal Bagels Owner Speaker Out

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The owner of Tal Bagels is reassuring customers after an Upper West Side store with the same name was padlocked by the city's health department for 157 health code violations.

Owner Ami Halon said on Instagram Tuesday the shuttered location at 2446 Broadway, between West 90th and 91st streets, has the same name but is no longer owned and operated by him.

"The bagel shop closed by the Health Department on the Upper West Side is not affiliated with Tal Bagels in any way — we sold that location over 20 years ago and have zero ownership, management or operational role there today," Halon wrote.

The Upper West Side spot was shuttered on July 17, with 157 health code violations, including citations for evidence of mice and roaches, as well as improper sewage disposal.

Halon, who operates four official Tal Bagels locations, said every one of his stores is A-rated. His four locations are 1228 Lexington Ave., 1324 Lexington Ave., 333 East 86th St. and 357 1st Ave.

"Thank you for trusting us with your bagels," he wrote.
