Seaford BOE Welcomes Second Student Member

SEAFORD, NY — Despite elections taking place months ago, the Seaford Board of Education had one last change to announce in its ranks this week: The role of student member, created last year, would be passed on to Seaford senior Meridith Goldberger.

According to the district, Goldberger was sworn in at the BOE’s July 8 reorganization meeting and will represent the student body, voice ideas and share concerns from students at board meetings.

“I am…excited to hear about decisions that are made and see how they directly impact our community,” Goldberger said. “With this opportunity, I am also hoping to grow my leadership skills and build a stronger connection between the students and board of education. If the board has questions regarding the students, I will be able to provide proper feedback to them.”

District officials said Goldberger would neither vote at board meetings nor attend executive sessions. Nonetheless, Goldberger said she would be in touch with both students and administrators ahead of board meetings to stay aware of the latest concerns and action items students might have on their minds.

“I feel that this position is valuable for Seaford because students embody a large population in our community and decisions the board makes can have a direct impact on the us,” Goldberger said. “It also gives students the opportunity to speak about issues that affect them and give insight to what is working well in the schools and also any challenges they may face. Being part of the board shows that students opinions matter and are valued.”

District officials said Goldberger is also the president of the senior class, president of the drama club, president of model congress and a member of the Seaford color guard, cross country team, dance team, track team and shared decision making committee.
